Objective

The lesson will help us pursue authentic walk with Jesus which results to vibrant transformation as we go through the process of daily repentance.

Introduction

Share among each other: "The longest walk you had.For what reason? And what did you learn from that experience?" Our first lesson talks about the heart of walking with Jesus, The Walk of Repentance. The walk that many avoid or missed yet very important because there is no other way to reach our destination without walking through the road of repentance. Let's find out why.

What is Repentance?

Repentance is heartfelt sorrow for sin followed by a sincere commitment to forsake it and walk in obedience to Christ. It's not merely feeling remorse or guilt but changing direction. It includes a recognition that sin is against almighty God and is utterly wrong. When we have truly repented, the result is a changed life. We forsake our former ways and return to the Lord. (Read Isaiah 55:7)

Whenever we sin, the indwelling Holy Spirit convicts us so we can confess and repent. We should never ignore. tolerate, accept, or practice what we know to be sinful. It not only offends God, but also hurts us.

What does confession mean?

Confession means agreeing with God that what we did was wrong. But that alone will not keep us from repeating it. Thats why repentance should always be a part of confession. We are called to live a sanctified life.one that is set apart for God and His purposes.

Open Discussion:
  1. Who are the characters in the story?
  2. Why did Prophet Nathan confront King David? - (See 2 Samuel 11)
  3. How did Prophet Nathan convict David of his sins? Or what was Prophet Nathan's way of addressing King David with his sins against God?
  4. How did King David respond to such confrontation of his sins against God?
From the story, let us summarize The Process of True Repentance - 2 Samuel 12:1-13
  1. At first King David was silent about his sin yet admitted it. - (See Psalm 32:1-7)
  2. Sees sin as against God
  3. Acknowledges his sin seriously
  4. Admits that his good works cannot reduce the guilt of his sin
  5. His repentance resulted in a renewed joy in the presence and service of God; a commitment to teach others to turn from their sin. See Psalm 32:8-11.
  6. His repentance produced enduring fruit. David forsook his sin and did not repeat it.

Applicaiton Points

True repentance walks in the following steps as ABCDE:

Step 1: Admit that I have sinned against God.
Step 2: Believe that God forgives all my sins and cleanses me from all unrighteousness. See I John 1:9
Step 3: Confess each sin. Never be reluctant to receivemy forgiveness.
Step 4: Decide to live a life of confession and repentance.
Step 5: Engage with God's word and prayer daily to help me take the right path of repentance.

Ministry Time

Walk step by step towards true repentance. Allowing everyone to surrender their lives to the Lord: confessing and repenting from all their sins so that they can start a purposeful walk with Jesus. Focus not on the steps to do but on the redemptive process of repentance which brings daily transformation in living anew in Christ; forgiven, cleansed and free.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
